Skoolmo's Privacy Policy

Introduction

For the sake of simplicity, we have created this Privacy Policy to be short and easy to read. In general, this Policy complies with the Information Technology Act of India, 2000, and broadly complies with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, as well.

To begin with, we thank you for joining the easiest e-Learning Platform: Skoolmo.

We at Skoolmo [hereafter referred to as ‘Skoolmo', ‘we’, ‘us’] respect your privacy and want you to understand how we collect, use, and share Data about you [the ‘User’]. Unless we link to a different Policy or state otherwise, this Privacy Policy applies when you visit or use the Skoolmo Website, Mobile/TV Applications and/or related services [hereafter referred to as the “Services”].

By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. You shouldn’t use the Services if you don’t agree with this Privacy Policy or any other agreement that governs your use of the Services.

1. Data Collected

We collect certain Data from you directly, like information you enter yourself, Data about your participation in Courses and Data on Products & Services you avail/opt for on Skoolmo. We also collect some Data automatically, like information about your Device and what parts of our Services you interact with or spend time using.


1.1 Data You Provide

When you create an Account and use the Services on Skoolmo, we generally collect any Data you provide directly, including:


Account & Profile Data

In order to use certain features [like enrolling in a Course], you need to create a User Account. When you create or update your Account, we collect and store the Data you provide, like your: Photo, First Name, Last Name, e-Mail Address, Mobile Number, Password, Gender, Date of Birth, Country, City and Name of the Institution you are associated with or studying in, after which we assign you a Unique Identification Number.


Course Data

When you enrol in and take Courses, we collect certain Data including which Courses, Assignments and Tests you’ve started and completed.


Payment Data

If you make purchases, we collect certain Data about your purchase as necessary to process your order. Any other Data you provide to complete a transaction will be collected directly by our payment processing partners, including your Name, Credit Card information and Billing Address. Accordingly, you may read the Privacy Policy of our payment processing partners to better understand what Data is collected by them and how it is used. Skoolmo does not collect or store Card Authentication Data.


Other Services

We may obtain certain information through your Social Media or other Online Accounts if they are connected to your Skoolmo Account. If you login to Skoolmo via Facebook, Google or other third-party Platform or Service, we ask for your permission to access certain information from that Account. For eSkoolmoe, depending on the Platform or Service we may collect your Name, Profile Picture, Account ID Number, Login e-Mail address, Location, Physical Location of your Access Devices, Gender, Birthday, and list of Friends or Contacts.


Those Platforms and Services make information available to us through their APIs. The information we receive depends on what information you (via your privacy settings) or the Platform or Service decide to give us.


If you access or use our Services through a third-party Platform or Service, the collection, use, and sharing of your Data will also be subject to the Privacy Policies and other Agreements of that third party.


Contests, Promotions & Surveys

We may invite you to complete a Survey or participate in a Promotion, including Contests, Sweepstakes, or Challenges), either through the Services or a third-party Platform. If you participate, we will collect and store the Data you provide as part of participating, such as your Name, e-Mail Address, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, etc. That Data is subject to this Privacy Policy unless stated otherwise in the official rules of the Survey/Promotion or in another Privacy Policy. The Data collected will be used to administer the Survey or Promotion, including for notifying winners and distributing rewards. To receive a reward, you may be required to allow us to post some of your information publicly [like on a Winner’s Page, Magazines, Websites, Newspapers/Articles, etc.].


The Data listed above is stored by us and is associated with your Account.



1.2 Data We Collect through Automated Means

When you access the Services, we collect certain Data by automated means, including:


System

Technical Data about your Computer or Device, such as your IP Address, Device Type, Operating System Type & Version, Unique Device Identifiers, Browser Details and other similar/associated Data.


Usage

Usage Statistics on our Platform, including time spent on the Portal, Services used, time spent on Pages or the Service, Pages visited, Search Queries, Click Data, Date & Time, Features accessed and similar/associated Data.


Location

In certain cases, we may collect an approximate Geographic Location that could include Country, City, Geographic Coordinates (calculated based on your IP Address.


Typically, the Data listed above is collected through the use of Server Log Files and Tracking Technologies. It is stored by us and associated with your Account.



2. How Data is Collected

We use tools like cookies, web beacons, analytics services, and advertising providers to gather the data listed above. Some of these tools offer you the ability to opt out of data collection


2.1 Cookies and Data Collection Tools


Skoolmo and third-party service providers acting on our behalf (like Google Analytics and third party advertisers) use Server Log Files and Automated Data Collection Tools like Cookies, Tags, Scripts, Customised Links, Device or Browser Fingerprints, and Web Beacons (together, “Data Collection Tools”) when you access and use the Services


In most cases, we use Cookies for things like analysing your use of the Services, personalising your experience, making it easier to log into the Services, and recognising you when you return. Consequently, your Web Browser should alert you about attempts to place Cookies on your Computer, limit the types of Cookies you allow, or refuse Cookies altogether. If you do opt to restrict Cookies or block them completely, you may not be able to use some or all features of the Services, and your experience may be different or less functional.


2.2 Analytics

We use third-party Browser and Mobile Analytics Services like Google Analytics, to help us analyse your use of the Services, including information like Usage and Performance Data, frequency of use of the Services and features within the Services. This Data is used to improve the Services, better understand how the Services perform on different Devices, and provide information that may be of interest to you.


2.3 Online Advertising

We use third-party Advertising Services like Facebook, Google Ads, and other Ad Networks and Ad Servers to deliver advertising about our Services on other Websites and Applications you use. The Ads may be personalised, based on your recent activity or activity over time and across other Sites and Services, tailored to your interests.


When using Mobile Applications you may also receive tailored In-App Advertisements. Apple iOS, Android OS, and Microsoft Windows each provide their own instructions on how to control In-App targeted/personalised Advertising. You should review Privacy Settings [on your OS] to alter delivery of Ads on your Device.



3. Use of Data

The Data we collect through your use of the Services is typically used to:

  • Provide and Administer the Services;
  • Process your Requests and Orders for courses;
  • Communicate with you about your Account;
  • Manage your Account Preferences;
  • Troubleshoot and Resolving Issues;
  • Secure the Services and prevent fraud and abuse;
  • Solicit Feedback from you;
  • Market and administer Surveys, Contests and Promotions;
  • Learn more about your use of the Services in order to better your experience on the Portal;
  • Personalise Advertisements across Devices;
  • Improve our Services and develop new Products, Services and Features;
  • Analyse Trends & Traffic and track Purchases;
  • Advertise the Services on third-party Websites & Applications;
  • As required or permitted by Law; and/or
  • As we, in our sole discretion, otherwise determine to be necessary to ensure the safety or integrity of our Users, Employees, Associates, Third Parties, the Public, or our Services.


4. Sharing of Data

We share certain Data about you with Instructors, Course Developers, other Students, Companies performing services for us, our Business Partners, Analytics and Data Enrichment providers, your Social Media providers, Companies helping us run Promotions and Surveys and Advertising Companies who help us promote our Services. We may also share your Data as needed for Security, Legal Compliance, or as part of a Corporate Restructuring. Lastly, we can share Data in other ways if it is aggregated or de-identified, or if we get your consent.


We may share your Data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:


  • With Service Providers, Contractors & Agents;
  • With Analytics & Data Enrichment Services;
  • To Power Social Media Features;
  • To Administer Promotions & Surveys;
  • For Security & Legal Compliance;
  • During a Change in Control;
  • After Aggregation/De-identification; and/or
  • With Your Permission.


5. Security

While we shall strive hard to protect your Data from third party attacks on our Servers/Website, it is your responsibility to protect your Password, as it is an important part of Security. You should not share your Password with any third party, and if you believe your Password or Account has been compromised, you should change it [your Password] immediately and contact support@skoolmo.com with any concerns.



6. Your Rights

6.1 Communication & Promotional Mail

You can choose not to provide certain Data to us, but you may not be able to use certain features of the Services.


To stop receiving promotional communications from us, you can opt out by clicking on ‘Unsubscribe’ in the promotional communication you receive. Regardless of whether you unsubscribe or not, we will send you transactional and Account-related messages regarding the Services, including administrative confirmations, order confirmations, important updates about the Services, and notices about our Policies.


6.2 Accessing, Updating, and Deleting Your Personal Data

You can access and update your Personal Data that Skoolmo collects and maintains as follows:


  • To update Data you provide directly, log into your Account and update your Profile at any time, through the Account Dashboard.

  • To terminate your Account, e-Mail us at support@skoolmo.com, requesting for termination. Please note: even after your Account is terminated, we retain your Data for as long as we have a legitimate purpose to do so [and in accordance with applicable Law], including to assist with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our Agreements. We may retain and disclose such Data pursuant to this Privacy Policy after your account has been terminated and where we have a lawful basis to do so, including for mandatory record-keeping and to complete transactions.


7. International Users & Children

7.1 Users Outside India

If you live outside India and are using the Services, you are still governed by and agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. Do note that we are broadly compliant with Privacy Laws prevalent in the United States, Australia and the European Economic Area.


7.2 Children

Children under 14 years of age are not allowed to create accounts on Skoolmo and use the Services. If we learn that we’ve collected Personal Data from a Child under 14, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.


We encourage parents and guardians to take an active role in their children’s online activities and interests - to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity. Skoolmo does not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 14. Parents who believe that Skoolmo may have collected Personal Data from a Child under 14 can write to support@skoolmo.com and request that it be removed.



8. Updates & Interpretations

8.1 Modifications to This Privacy Policy

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. If we make any material change to it, we will notify you via e-Mail, through a notification posted on the Services, or as required by applicable Law. Unless stated otherwise, modifications will become effective on the day they are posted.


As permitted by applicable Law, if you continue to use the Services after the effective date of any change, then your access and/or use will be deemed an acceptance of [and agreement to follow and be bound by] the revised Privacy Policy. The revised Privacy Policy supercedes all previous Privacy Policies.


8.2 Interpretation

Any capitalised terms not defined in this Policy are defined as specified in Skoolmo's Terms of Use. This Privacy Policy is available only in English and you are deemed to have interpreted it and read it in a language of your choice, in line with intended expressions in English, should you have found the need to.



9. Jurisdiction

Any disputes arising under this Privacy Policy shall be governed by the laws of India and shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Courts in Bangalore [India].
